A design proposal for The Humane School

I am proud and happy to present Astri´s design proposal for the Humane School project in Sirende, Kenya. The school is a Steiner school with both anthroposophical and traditional Kenyan influences.

Architectural model of Astri´s design proposal. On the left, the six classrooms and the Assembly ground.
The goal has been to create a project that is environmentally friendly, supports the local community, improves the learning conditions for the students and promotes innovative solutions. The design is based mostly on research from my study trip to Kenya, where I focused on involving the locals in the process by holding interactive workshops and meetings. The proposal is now under further development and we hope to be able to start the construction soon!

-‎Astri Sundström Konradsson, newly graduated architect and volunteer on The Humane School project‎ -

Remember, in October last year I wrote about two volunteers on their way to Kenya ?

Well, they have returned and Astri has graduated from the School of Architecture at Lund University, Sweden.

Her diploma project is compiled in a comprehensive and illustrated report including analysis and design proposal for the Humane School project in Sirende, Kenya.

Yesterday, I received a printed copy of the report by mail.
It is wonderful to feel in my hands a tangible aspect of the collaborative work that we have been carrying out for many months.
