Participatory workshop in India

Updated: Oct 1, 2019

Examples of implementation of participatory methodologies for the development

of five informal settlements in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, Odisha, India.

In January 2017, together with Architecture Sans Frontières- Sweden (ASF Sweden), of which I am an active member since 2015, I co-organised and participated in the two-weeks workshop "In Situ Studio Bhubaneswar and Cuttack", putting into practice participatory methodologies as an input to the great work of our local partner NGOs.

Together with a small team of Indian, French and Swedish participants, I have been holding participatory methods analysis with the community of Laxmanpur, a small informal settlement situated in the north of Cuttack, in east India.

This publication is a documentation over the two-week participatory workshop In Situ Studio Bhubaneswar-Cuttack initiated by ASF Sweden and implemented in collaboration with the Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centers (SPARC) and Urban Development Resource Centre (URDC) in the state of Odisha, India the 5th to the 18th of January 2017.

Read here the full version of the publication!

You can also find here a great database of tools and methodologies developped by ASF-UK. Those can be used to engage with vulnerable communities for advocacy and socio-spatial transformation within contested environments.
